We love our Friends of Caithness Horizons volunteers!

We have been overwhelmed by the uptake of their new volunteering programme.  A request for interested volunteers to come forward was advertised just a few days before Christmas and an initial information session was held on 11th January.  Since then, Administration and Marketing officer Marion has been training the eager volunteers.  The volunteers have already proved to be an outstanding asset.  We’re lucky to have people with all sorts of skills and interests join our team and we’re so excited at the possibilities the volunteers offer.

For the time being, the volunteer group are assisting front of house by welcoming visitors and directing them around the Museum.  As time goes on, it is hoped that these volunteers will help the Museum team by offering informative guided tours.

Since the first session on Tuesday 16th January, the group of 7 volunteers have already banked an amazing 60 voluntary hours which we are thrilled about!  Marion has been in regular contact with Catherine Patterson, Caithness Voluntary Group to seek advice on volunteer best practice and is looking forward to recognising the individuals for their contribution to Caithness Horizons Museum and Art Gallery.  Marion will nominate the volunteers for either a Saltire Award or a Highland Volunteer Award.  The Museum is also working towards achieving its own Volunteering Award-The Volunteer Friendly Award.  If you'd like to get involved then please don't hesitate to contact us and we'll get the ball rolling right away-the more the merrier!
