Created in 2016, Caithness is the first mainland county in Scotland to have it's own flag. The Nordic cross on the flag represents the Norse heritage of the area. The black reflects the local geology in the famous Caithness flagstone whilst the gold and blue relates to the beaches and the sea reflecting our maritime history. A galley features in the top corner with a raven on it's sail representing further the Norse heritage and is depicted on the civic arms of Caithness.
